Richard Leveridge Hoxie (1844-1930) served in the Civil War and graduated from West Point in 1868. He served with George Montague Wheeler during his 1872-1873 field sessions. In 1874, he was promoted to Chief Engineer of the District of Columbia under the Temporary Board of Commissioners, and became Assistant to the Engineer Commissioner of the District in 1878. Jane Hoxie Robinson came to Iowa City in 1842 with her husband, James Robinson. On September 27, 1852 she married Thomas Banbury. Her parents, Ichabod (?) and Electa Hoxie were living in Iowa City after 1850. Richard Hoxie, son of her brother Joseph who was living in New York, came to live with Jane around 1858.
